State Bank of Pakistan (SBP), the Central Bank, is looking for young, talented and energetic candidates for the following contractual positions in the Museum, Art Gallery & Archives Department, based at Karachi.

Vacant Posts Detail:

Archival Paper Conservationist

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Undertake the inspection of the material brought in the Archives Division; make assessment and taking measures for its treatment, preservation and the storage condition.
  • Prepare condition reports and treatment proposals.
  • Management and maintenance of the laboratory including the preparation of chemical reagents and solutions.
  • Demonstrate excellence in performing complex conservation treatments.
  • Working knowledge of chemical and material sciences.
  • Maintaining appropriate documentation of all work, including digital/photographic records.
  • Knowledge of preservation standards for archival matting and housing, for environmental conditions.
  • Generate Quarterly & Annual Reports regarding the treated records for the submission to the Director.
  • Devise conservation strategies based on knowledge of materials, chemical processes, and aesthetic and ethical considerations.
  • Produce clear and accurate costing and treatment proposals and discuss the details & treatment implications with Supervisor.
  • Work effectively and constructively both independently and as part of a team, be attentive and engaged with laboratory activities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, excellent written communication skills.

Eligibility Criteria:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (14 years of education) in Chemistry (Organic/Inorganic) or related discipline from HEC recognized institutions or from a reputable foreign university.

Age:

Maximum 32 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:

Minimum 01 year of working experience of conservation/restoration/preservation of archival paper records including paintings.

Exhibition Developer:

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Conceptualization, planning, research, development, writing and execution of all visual and text content. Creating initial design sketches and computer-generated three-dimensional visuals, sometimes building models and prototypes.
  • Coordination and consultation with Curators, Scholars & Specialists for the development of museum display and exhibit content.
  • Review the content material.
  • Conduct research of graphic materials for projects such as images and videos.
  • Develop, write & present ideas of all print & audio visual concepts & graphic content.
  • Review text and visual contents included in graphic panels.
  • Work with supervisor to plan a long term strategy for displays.
  • Research, design, fabricate and coordinate displays at the museum.
  • Research, design, fabricate and coordinate publication section which includes quarterly and yearly publishing of Coin Catalogues, brochures, flyers, books etc.
  • In coordination with the Museum Shop Manager; identify and design new ideas of the souvenir to be sold in the gift shop.
  • Redesign outdated permanent display areas, to include interactive elements, bilingual text, and when available audio/visual material. Working on the re-display of some exhibitions, updating ideas and displays.
  • Works with gallery attendants to refine the visitor experience, and to select and critique exhibition media.
  • Liaising with designers, audio visual and animatronics experts, graphic video producers and multimedia specialists, even actors, to create a sensory experience for the visitor.
  • Contributing to programs of events, which aim to encourage broader audiences, including educational events.
  • Layout scheme, printing color scheme.
  • Experience of printing press & dealing with technical issues till the finalization of printing, color correction, layout sizing.

Eligibility Criteria:

Education:

Bachelors Degree (14 years of education) in Fine Arts/Graphic Design/Social Sciences or related discipline from HEC recognized institutions or from a reputable foreign university.

Age:

Maximum 40 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:

Minimum 10 years of experience in in the related field including publications designing, layouting, CTP (should have experience of atleast 5 years) and offset printing with reference to Museum Work.
Ability to design exhibits that utilize audio visual, mechanical and computer elements

Gallery Officer

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Accompanying the visitors to the museum Department and offering additional information on displays.
  • Designing display cases and setting up display areas.
  • Greetings visitors upon arrival to the institution.
  • Preparing objects and artefacts for display purposes.
  • Researching to verify data or hypotheses.
  • Handling of social Media and other digital technology.
  • Operating of different equipment installed in the museum.
  • Any other task assigned by the Director.

Eligibility Criteria:

Education:

  • Bachelors or Masters Degree (16 years of education) in Social Sciences, General History, preferably Archaeology or related discipline from HEC recognized institutions or from a reputable foreign university.

Age:

  • Maximum 33 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in in the related field.
  • Experience of working in any Museum/Art Gallery is preferable.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Public speaking.
  • Written and oral communication skills.

Assistant Curator

Key responsibilities of the incumbent will include, but not limited to, the following:

  • Archival matting, hinging, & framing of works on paper, providing backing on paintings, mounting hardware & some minor conservation work.
  • Assist in the management of physical storage and daily maintenance of the collections and exhibitions, including movement of objects in the collection and monitoring up keep of exhibitions.
  • Assist with object record keeping and information retrieval using the museum system database (TMS).
  • Assist in monitoring exhibits’ budget, prepare purchase orders, and perform general administrative tasks.
  • In consultation with Curator/Antiquity Registrar/Director prepare loans for travel and exhibition, including soft packing and crating.

  • Produce scale models and working drawings for installations as required.
  • Consultation with Curator/Director determine appropriate fabrication materials, mounts, security, lights levels and climate conditions for each exhibit.
  • Assist in the preparation of galleries for exhibitions, including spackling, painting, & minor construction.
  • Install and maintain Audio/Visual equipment and components for exhibition.
  • Fabricate necessary object mounts, furniture, and pedestals for exhibition.
  • Assist in the production of label copy, and graphics for exhibitions.
  • Order fabrication material and monitor their supply.
  • Assist in hiring, scheduling, and managing freelance installers and interns.
  • Work closely with couriers during unpacking and installation and de installation and packing of loaned objects.
  • On occasion act as a courier.
  • Work with Curator/Director to plan future acquisitions and loans to the collection. Cultivates collaboration/networking with regional resources that have objects and materials available to loan or donate to the museums’ exhibitions
  • Updates displays and interpretive materials and plans for renovation or upgrade of gallery interiors, equipment, and furniture, as needed.
  • Assist in managing all aspects of the changing exhibition schedule to ensure downtime between exhibits is managed to avoid a negative impact on the visitor and educational experience.
  • Assist in administering contracts, schedules and budgets.
  • Supervise or plan and design of art gallery exhibits in cooperation with Curator/Director/Museum Community, incorporating Museum collections as much as possible.

Eligibility Criteria:

Education:

Bachelors or Master’s Degree (16 years of education) in Art History, History, Museum Studies, Cultural Studies or related discipline from HEC recognized institutions or from a reputable foreign university.

Age:

  • Maximum 35 years, as of the date of submission of application (as per CNIC). Relaxation maybe allowed in case of additional relevant experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the operations of museum, including exhibition organization and implementation and preparation of exhibition related publications.

Competencies & Skills:

  • Research and writing skills, strong project and time management skills, and public speaking.
    A thorough knowledge of South Asian Art along with one research article published in a reputable Research Journal is preferable.
